I switched from the Joola Mod-TA to the Ripple V2 R1, and I have to admit, I wasn’t sold at first. The paddle felt very head heavy and stiff out of the gate, and the sweet spot was definitely on the small side. I was having trouble with dinks, resets, and drops, and I was starting to get discouraged. But I kept with it, and low and behold, only two weeks later, the paddle has softened up, and I absolutely love this thing. My hands are wicked fast with this bad boy despite the head heaviness (I did add 3-4 grams to the butt), and the pop I’m getting on counters is insane. I believe one of the reasons this paddle is so maneuverable despite the high swing weight is due to the 14mm thickness and aero top. It cuts through the air better than thicker, squarer paddles, so if you’re used to a 16mm standard elongated with a similar swing weight, your hand speed automatically ticks up. I also love the spin I am getting with my R1. It’s well beyond what I was expecting given the modest RPM specs. And last but not least, the power you can generate from this paddle is ELITE. It’s not as springy as my Mod-TA, which would exponentially power up your shots. The R1 is much more responsive to the power you put into it, however, and I am able to shape balls much better than I was with my Mod. My speed ups are also greatly improved, and they are consistently staying in (unlike with my Mod-TA). Overall, I am super impressed with what this paddle has to offer, and I feel like it is WAY UNDERRATED. Stay away if you have hard hands or require a massive sweet spot, but other than that, grab this beast today and start playing the best pickleball of your life. Btw, sweet spot can be enhanced with lead (3:00 and 9:00 = max increase to twist weight + min increase to swing weight). I also recommend adding a sturdy edge guard (I use two) to protect investment and increase stability.
