Refoam R4.14

Bought this paddle back in November 2025, April 2026 and still my #1 go to paddle.

This paddle offers great feel and feedback. It has a hollow, trampoline like feel. I have to generate my own power but the soft touch, control and spin I get is just what I was looking for. I like this much better than my Vatic V-sol pro or Honolulu J2NF.

R4 Refoam versus R1 Pulsar. If you loved your Pulsar, consider this. The R1 Pulsar was a great, highly commended paddle for its performance not long ago. I’ve owned three of them and have never felt the desire to play with anything else. True happiness. I purchased the R4 Refoam hoping for an enhanced version of the R1 Pulsar and that is exactly what I got. (Played tennis all my life as 3.5/4.0, team tennis and tournaments.)
The Refoam gives me somewhat better control for:
- cross court soft hit and burners at sharp angles to kitchen corner near sideline off opponent’s serves that land midcourt or a little deeper.
- down the line hard to opponent’s backhand when returning deep shots, and on return of serve especially.
- hard hit screwball returns from midcourt (or soft as screwball drop shots into kitchen. More spin than pulsar and a lot of it.
- smashed topspin resets that drop just over the net into kitchen
- full swinging volleys from midcourt (on lobs too) aimed left or right with lots of topspin
- slice when needed
- drop shots out wide when dinking in the kitchen with peeling away side spin
- reflex shots at the net ( Refoam is lighter and somewhat more mobile)
- sidespin overheads
- The sound is great. Similar to Pulsar.
- anyway , you get the picture.
Also… Refoam required literally no period of adjustment. Felt great right from the start. I have played with it about 25 hours and am really happy! It was the right decision for me.
You’re wondering about power… To me it’s similar to the R1 Pulsar but overall just a little stronger and with a little better control of that power. Not a power paddle. I put 3 + 3 grams of Tungsten tape at 10 and 2 o’clock and that gave it a boost without affecting control from what I can see. I have found that against those who are bang bang bangers with power paddles that it holds its own because it supports control shots to help win points, and seems to move faster into position at the net.

Great all court paddle. Enough pop and power to be respected at the net and on drives. Light enough to take a little weight and still be fast and maneuverable. Once it breaks in there is a softer side to it which helps with touch shots like drops and dinks and I even found it decent on resets. Tough to dial it all in though if you’re coming from a power paddle. It’s similar to the quanta with weight but with a better sweet spot. The drop off from hitting off center hits is not nearly as bad. That’s was my only gripe with the quanta. The refoam has an mpp core which sounds like a gen 2 paddle, not the thonk you might be expecting. And now that it’s on sale I think it’s a great buy at this lower price.

I appreciate the work that Ronbus put into this paddle but it might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's an objectively good paddle, but nothing about it is particularly standout (which can also be a good thing). It's more of an all-court paddle. Sweet spot, maneuverability, stability, and feel are all "just good".

Now that I’ve played with my Ronbus Refoam for about a month, I feel a lot better about recommending it - and that indeed I do, wholeheartedly. First, you should know that I’m an old sod (80, my last birthday), with a lot of the issues that old folks have (some loss of balance, some loss of eye-hand, bad shoulders, decreased foot speed; on the other hand, I’m good for a story and a wee dram of Irish every now and then). 90 minutes of constant play is about all I can muster. So I’ve had to shorten my swing, use a lighter paddle, give up overheads, try to use spin and short game more/most, but keep the occasional drive as a threat to my aged playing companions. Plus, I’ve been playing Ronbus paddles for several years. I have loved them all, and recommended them to my friends (nope: I’m not a rep), but the Refoam is certainly my favorite, even without extra weighting. My Refoam gives me a more solid strike (or so I think), and more control of the spin and trajectory, especially in the early morning breeze of Georgia. I have much less shoulder pain using it. (Of course, I’m not playing the hard bodies in their 40s and 50s at UGA any more). I think - but can’t prove - that because of the lower weight, shorter swing, but more controlled strike, I don’t pull myself out of balance, and because I can stay more on the balls of my feet, I’m more mobile and more stable at the kitchen: I feel more ready to receive the ball and even enter into a battle at the kitchen. (My group has mostly given up lobbing for fear of a fall and a broken hip, let alone some nifty loss of skin for those of us bleeding more easily, so I can’t talk about up and back). All in all, absolutely a worthwhile investment, indeed for those of us on Social Security and Medicare. Funny. I didn’t used to think about these things. Anyway, the Refoam is a great paddle. If your circumstances are anything like mine, you will play happily with it. Regards.

The paddle is good for dinks and drop off, reset but not for driving games. I really enjoy all the paddles from Ronbus. Thank you for making great paddles with affordable prices.

I thought It was great, me personally I played better with it than the MPP EnhanceTurbo or any of luzz Inferno. I like the fact that the Ronbus Refoam had more control and and stiffer face, but plays Plushed and poppy once it softened up and brokened in. Out off of the MPP's I tested, the refoam felt the most like a Gen 3 paddle. Thank you for creating such a paddle. Now that I got that out the way, I know you'll keep reinventing the wheel. Lets see the REFOAM 2 with a durable grit, come out this year!!! And hopefully the paddle of the year. 🙏

My paddle 7.5 oz stock static weight which I modified exactly like my Quanta R4 with 6 inches of half gram tape under 4 inches of 1 gram tape both centered on the sides as both came at the same static weight. This one does feel a lot more head heavy even thought the static weights are the same. I will say that I put a hesacore on my Quanta and not on my Refoam but I'm not sure it would change much.
I've gotten a few sessions in so far and noticed a few things. While the Quanta made it easy for faster play and harder serves, this paddle will reward slowing down a bit to control and shape your shots and favor more resets, drops, and cheese (which all feel much more natural) with more than enough power for a good put away. One other thing I really like about this paddle is how much you can feel your shots, it almost feels like you can feel it sink into the paddle on some shots.

I like it a lot but still feeling it out. Great all court control. I wanted a lighter paddle and still was surprised the swing weight still felt up there. I wish I could try the wide body for comparison.

Did notice some vibration on miss hits so added some lead tape and seemed to stabilize well. I'm a 4.5 player and though I'm still getting the feel for what paddles I like and why I can say my play has elevated with it.

I have played with other carbon paddles, but this one is the best! I’m so glad I found a paddle I can put in my students hands where they can feel confident and succeed quickly.

Overall good control paddle. The swing weight is low so there isn't much power or pop without weighting the paddle. That said, I haven't found the right set up to dial in increasing power or pop without sacrificing feel. I'll be spending some more time trying weight setups. That said, this paddle can generate a lot of spin so shaping the ball isn't too hard.

This is a great paddle. Very good control, very forgiving, easy to put lot's of spin and yet still good power when you need it. This paddle has made me better and much more confident. I am much more able to redirect shots with this paddle than any other previous paddle I've used. Serve placement is easier and I'm able to be more consistent when switching between my two different serves. It makes a unique sound when the ball hits it hard. I added an overgrip, an edge guard to the top, and 3 grams of weight at 9 and 3 o'clock.

so, I have a collection of Ronbus gear, including the R1.16, Nova, Pulsar FX, EV2, and now the Refoam R1.14. The Refoam so far is my favorite, for just the right balance of power/pop and control (important to me). I have really enjoyed playing with it so far, and would recommend it to anyone who can sufficiently generate their own power and doesn't need the paddle to generate all their power like the power-cannon (like the EV2).

Got this at launch and enjoyed it quite a bit. Excellent spin allowed me to hit some sharp angles. Overall, does a lot of things well and is easy to use.

With the MPP core, it feels like playing with a Gen 2 paddle. It also sounds like a traditional Gen 2 paddle. Stock, it is very light, sub 8 oz, very maneuverable. Add 3-4 grams on each side for more power and plow through.

I've been playing with the Refoam 4.14 for about 4 weeks now and am quite amazed that there was no break-in period with this paddle. The first game I played with the paddle was like I had been playing with it my whole pickleball career. It offers a perfect balance of power and control that fit seamlessly into my game. I started playing pickleball with the original R2.16. Moved on to the Ripple R2.14 and finally to the Refoam R4.14. I've loved all of these paddles but really feel I've found the sweet spot with the Refoam. Way to go Ronbus.

This paddle is freaking light. It’s a bit toned down from the r1 version but still packs a punch. I did have to add weights to this to get a good bang out of it. With the added weights, it’s still fast in the kitchen. I love dinking and speed ups with this paddle. This paddle I feel is more of a control paddle. Placement with this paddle is a very easy and the sweet spot is pretty big
